Kelly Bruce ’12 (pictured) broke a school record as the Grinnell College women’s swimming and diving team rolled past Coe College 169-119 Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
Bruce won the one-meter diving event with a score of 277.50, breaking the previous Pioneer best of 275.60 set by Jo Schaalman in 1998.
Bruce also won three-meter diving with a score of 287.02. She set pool records in both events, as well.
Other Pioneer individual champs were Nikki Pyle ’14 in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.49), Beth Gillig ’15 in the 100 freestyle (57.64), 200 freestyle (2:03.39) and 200 individual medley (2:19.73) and Emily Bajet ’12 in the 200 butterfly (2:28.80).
Grinnell also won the 200 medley relay with Pyle, Morgan Bober ’12, Gillig and Grace Gallagher ’14 (1:57.34) and the 200 freestyle relay with Pyle, Lauren O’Hair ’12, Callie Eyman-Casey ’14 and Gallagher (1:46.64).
Individual runners-up for Grinnell were Danielle Phillips ’15 in the 1000 freestyle (11:41.05), Martha Reilly ’12 in the 200 freestyle (2:06.97), Katherine Chung ’12 in the 100 breastsroke (1:18.03), Catherine Klesner ’15 in the 200 butterfly (2:35.36), Eyman-Casey in the 50 freestyle (27.06), Emma Falley ’15 in one-meter diving and three-meter diving (254.10 and 250.27, respectively, Sara Hannemann ’14 in the 200 backstroke (2:24.07) and 100 butterfly (1:07.34), Casey Strickler ’12 in the 200 breaststroke (2:47.10), Alex Staff ’13 in the 500 freestyle (5:48.45) and Bober in the 200 individual medley (2:24.50).
The Pioneers, 5-2 in dual meets, will compete in the Midwest Conference Championships Feb. 17-19 in Appleton, Wis.
