A trio of runner-up finishes led the Grinnell College women’s swimming and diving team to second place after the opening day of the 2012 Midwest Conference Championships Friday at Appleton, Wis.
Morgan Bober ‘12 and Beth Gillig ‘12 were each on the runner-up 200-yard freestyle and 400 medley relays that had clockings of 1:41.11 and 4:02.50, respectively.
Sara Hannemann ‘14 and Grace Gallagher ‘14 completed the 200 freestyle team, while Nikki Pyle ‘14 and Danielle Phillips ‘15 rounded out the 400 medley squad.
Also taking second was Kelly Bruce ‘12 in one-meter diving (420.40).
Phillips was third in the 200 individual medley (2:14.43), while taking fifth were Caitlin Short ‘12 in the 200 individual medley (2:20.31) and Emma Falley ‘15 in one-meter diving (392.15).
Martha Reilly ‘12 took sixth in the 500 freestyle (5:23.51).
Grinnell had 217 points after the opening day. Lake Forest College leads the nine-team event with 299 points.
The meet continues Saturday and concludes Sunday.
