Morgan Bober ’12 (pictured) set a new Midwest Conference Championships record in the 100-yard butterfly to lead the Grinnell College women’s swimming and diving team at the 2012 league meet Saturday in Appleton, Wis.
Bober won the race in 59.19, breaking the old mark of 59.36 set by Lauren Tracy of Carroll in 2006.
Additionally, Nikki Pyle '14 set a Grinnell school record in the 100 backstroke during the preliminary round. She had a time of 1:01.15, snapping the mark of 1:01.18 by Julia McHugh in 2005.
Grinnell had two other winners Saturday, as Danielle Phillips ’15 won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.26 and Kelly Bruce ’12 was first in three-meter diving with a score of 475.00.
The Pioneers added a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay, as Pyle, Phillips, Bober and Grace Gallagher ’14 swam 1:51.21.
Also placing second was Beth Gillig ’15 in the 100 butterfly (1:00.11).
Third went to Bober in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.09) and the 800 freestyle relay team of Carrie Sibbald ’15, Martha Reilly ’12, Casey Strickler ’12 and Gillig (8:09.23).
Reilly was fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:56.52), the same placing as Pyle in the 100 backstroke (1:02.37).
Taking fifth were Gillig in the 100 backstroke (1:02.57) and Emma Falley ’15 in three-meter diving (419.65).
Grinnell continues to be second in the team standings with 574 points. Lake Forest College leads the event, which concludes Sunday, with 651.
