One day after breaking the 100-yard backstroke school record, Grinnell College’s Nikki Pyle ’14 has another Pioneer mark to her credit.
Pyle swam the 200 backstroke in 2:12.37 Sunday at the 2012 Midwest Conference Championships in Appleton, Wis., to break the Grinnell mark of 2:12.56 set by Julia McHugh in 2007. Pyle finished second in the event.
Morgan Bober ’12 earned a victory for Grinnell on Sunday, doing so in the 200 butterfly. She finished in 2:15.72.
The Pioneers finished second in the team standings with 824 points. Lake Forest College won the nine-team event with 878 points.
Placing third for Grinnell Sunday were Beth Gillig ’15 in the 100 freestyle (55.36), Danielle Phillips ’15 in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.66) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Sara Hannemann ’14, Lauren O’Hair ’12, Casey Strickler ’12 and Gillig (3:45.13).
Martha Reilly ’12 was fourth in the 1650 freestyle in 18:37.53 and Jenna Beeler ’12 placed fifth in 18:54.09.
Hannemann was fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:16.27) and Emily Bajet ’12 was fifth in the 200 butterfly in 2:23.71.
