A pair of event victories Saturday sent the Grinnell College women’s swimming and diving team to its second Pioneer Classic title in as many years at Russell K. Osgood Pool.

Danielle Phillips ’15 (left) was first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.88) and Kelly Bruce ’12 (right) captured top honors in one-meter diving (383 points).

Grinnell had a pair of runner-up finishes, with Emma Falley ’15 doing so in one-meter diving (348.80) and Beth Gillig ’15, Phillips, Morgan Bober ’12 and Nikki Pyle ’14 accomplishing the feat in the 200 medley relay (1:55.22).

Third place went to Pyle in the 100 backstroke (1:04.61), Bober in the 200 butterfly (2:26.89) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Pyle, Grace Gallagher ’14, Phillips and Gillig (3:53.30).

Gillig was fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:03.67), while also placing fourth was the 800 freestyle relay squad of Carrie Sibbald ’15, Jenna Beeler ’13, Phillips and Gillig (8:43.64).

Capturing fifth were Gillig in the 100 backstroke (1:04.90), Pyle in the 200 backstroke (2:21.04) and Phillips in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.39).

Grinnell won the 14-team event with 859 points, beating runner-up Loras College by nearly 200 points.

The Pioneers are off until Jan. 10 when they face Connecticut College in Florida.
