Pioneers Cruise to Victory over Luther
The Grinnell College women's swimming and diving team walked away with winners in seven events (two relays and five individuals) en route to a 130-94 victory over Luther on Friday night.
The team wasted little time as they opened with a victory in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:55.32. Alex Peitz '10 finished second in the 1,000 freestyle for the Pioneers, while Carly Kruse '10 and Emily Sipfle '08 took fifth and sixth respectively.
Valerie Stimac '09 (26.30), Erinn Croco '07 (26.46), and Emily Summers '10 (26.89) took the top three spots respectively in the 50 freestyle, while Meghan McDoniel '10 won the 200 IM in a time of 2:17.26. Maggie Connolly '07, Andie Schrage '08, and Jordan Allison '09 finished second, third, and fourth in the 1-meter diving, before Amy Hadow '10 (1:01.03) and Peitz (1:02.50) grabbed the top two spots respectively in the 100 butterfly. Hadow's top finish was also a new pool record.
Stimac and Chloe took second and third in the 100 freestyle before Julia McHugh '07 was victorious in the 100 backstroke (1:03.99). McDoniel also brought home first-place honors in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:11.66. The team then closed the meet out by winning the 200 freestyle relay in a pool record time of 1:43.02.
Grinnell will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Carleton for a 12:00 p.m. meet.
