Pioneers Take Seventh at Mutual of Omaha Invite
The Grinnell College women's swimming and diving team recorded 225 points and finished in seventh-place at the Mutual of Omaha Invite over the weekend. The University of Nebraska Omaha won the team title with 1,330 points.
The Pioneers took fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.45. Meghan McDoniel '10 captured a seventh-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:11.99), while Emily Summers '10 took 18th. McDoniel also added a 15th-place finish in the 200 freestyle and was a part of the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay teams which took 5th and 13th respectively. She capped off her performance by taking 12th in the 200 IM (2:19.969), while the 400 freestyle relay team took sixth (3:47.89).
Valerie Stimac '09 captured 14th in the 50 freestyle and was also a member of the 200 medley relay that placed fifth and the 800 freestyle relay that took 13th. She reached the finish line in 2:19.68 to place 15th in the 200 IM, while taking 18th in the 100 freestyle. She then ended the weekend as a member of the sixth-place 400 freestyle relay team.
Alex Peitz '10 recorded a 17th-place finish in the 400 IM before taking sixth in the 100 butterfly. She then added a 10th-place finish (2:21.47) in the 200 butterfly to close out the meet.
Julia McHugh '07 captured ninth in the 200 backstroke as Amy Hadow '10 took ninth in the 100 butterfly. Carly Kruse '10 brought home a 12th-place finish in the 1650 freestyle (20:05.38) as Hadow and McHugh were also members of the 200 medley relay team that placed fifth. Kruse and Peitz were members of the 800 freestyle team that took 13th.
Erin Croco '07 was on the 400 freestyle relay team that finished sixth as Mary Ahlquist '07 added a 19th-place finish for the Pioneers in the 1000 freestyle.
The Pioneers will take a few weeks off before going on their winter training trip to Naples, Fla., December 30-January 10. While on the trip, the team will compete against Connecticut College on January 5 at 1:00 p.m.
