Pioneers Split at Univ. of Chicago Triangular

The Grinnell College women's swimming and diving team split a pair of duals on Saturday afternoon in the University of Chicago Triangular. The Pioneers cruised to a 206-77 win over Lake Forest before falling 157-142 to the Univ. of Chicago. The team finished the day with six first-place finishes.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Julia McHugh '07, Meghan McDoniel '10, Amy Hadow '07, and Erin Croco '07 won the event with a time of 1:56.72. McHugh and Croco then teamed up with Emily Summers '10 and Valerie Stimac '09 to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:45.16.

Stimac then captured the 200 freestyle in 2:04.01, while McHugh was victorious in the 100 backstroke with her time of 1:03.62. McHugh, Summers, and Lily Camp '10 then finished 2-3-4 in the 100 backstroke. McHugh also added a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:19.03

Carly Kruse '10 captured a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:12.40 as Alex Peitz '10 took second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:18.67. Peitz later added a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:36.21 and a third-place finish (2:23.08) in the 200 IM.

Croco placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.47 as Stimac's time of 57.11 was good enough for second in the 100 freestlye. Hadow chipped in with a victory in the 100 butterfly with her time of 1:01.26.

The team now gets a little break before returning to competition on December 1 & 2, when they take part in the Mutual of Omaha Invite. The team is scheduled to compete at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on each day.
