Head Coach Erin Hurley (14th Season)

Erin Hurley will begin her 14th season as Grinnell College's head swimming and diving coach. As aquatics director she also manages the pool and teaches swimming and safety courses.

A 1989 graduate of the University of Nebraska, Hurley had a successful career as a Cornhusker swimmer. Competing in breaststroke and individual medley events, she was a three-time Big Eight Conference Champion and a four-time NCAA-All American.

Hurley's first coaching stint involved graduate assisting at the University of Iowa with the women's swim program from 1990-92. While earning an M.A. in physical education (sport psychology) at the University of Iowa, Hurley served as swimming coach at Cornell College (Mt. Vernon, Iowa) in 1992-93.

From 1993-95, she was the men's and women's swim coach and aquatics director at Illinois Wesleyan University, a Division III school in Bloomington, Ill. In the spring of 1995, she was honored as the Illinois men's swimming coach of the year in the college division.

Since her arrival at Grinnell, Hurley has been voted 2006 MWC Women's Coach of the Year, 2005 MWC Men's Coach of the year, 2004 MWC Women's Coach of the Year, 2003 MWC Coach of the Year, 2002 MWC Coach of the Year, 1999 MWC Coach of the Year and 1998 MWC Co-Coach of the Year.

In 2001, Hurley was voted Iowa Small College Coach of the Year for women's swimming and in 2002 she was recognized as the Iowa Small College Coach of the Year for men's swimming. In 2002 she was also tabbed Iowa Small College Co-Women's coach of the Year. Hurley's women's team has won 10 consecutive Midwest Conference titles (1999-2007), while the men's squad has captured seven straight MWC titles (2002-2007). Both teams continue to be honored by the College Swim Coaches Association for excellence in academics.

Assistant Coach Tim Hammond (2nd Season)

Alt Text Tim Hammond is a native of Grinnell, having graduated from Grinnell-Newburg High School and Luther College in Decorah with a bachelor's degree in health and minors in K-12 Health Education, Spanish and Environmental Studies. While competing at Luther, Hammond was named most inspirational performer on the swim team. His coaching experience includes head coach at Decorah High School, coaching club swimming in Grinnell and serving as an assistant at Luther. In addition to his coaching duties at Grinnell, Hammond is the recruiting coordinator and director of the strength and conditioning program for swimming and diving.

Diving Coach Ray Obermiller (7th Season)

Ray Obermiller Obermiller was the head men's and women's swimming and diving coach for Grinnell from 1969 until 1994. During that time, his teams were crowned with 26 Midwest Conference titles. He begins his sixth season as the men's and women's diving coach. He has tutored numerous All-Americans and several national champions during his tenure. He is recognized nationally for his expertise and service to NCAA Division III collegiate swimming and diving.
