Grinnell College’s women claimed gold in the sprint medley relay and broke numerous school records on the opening day of the 2012 Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Jacksonville, Ill.

Grinnell College’s Sarah Burnell ’14 has been named the Midwest Conference Women’s Track Performer of the Week.

Burnell, from Grinnell, Iowa (Grinnell), played a part in two school-record performances at the Wartburg Indoor Invite on Saturday. In the 800-meter run, she toured the track in 2:16.52 to eclipse her school mark of 2:18.64, set last season.

Four school records tumbled as the Grinnell College women’s track and field team placed third at the Wartburg Indoor Invite Saturday in Waverly.

An event victory and a school record highlighted the performance of the Grinnell College women’s track and field team at its own Darren Young Classic contested Saturday at the Charles Benson Bear ’39 Recreation and Athletic Center Field House.

Eloise Miller ’15 (pictured) shattered the Grinnell College school record en route to earning a victory in the women’s triple jump at the Cornell College Hilltop Open this weekend.

Miller had a winning leap of 35-5, breaking the previous Pioneer best of 33-9 ½ by Maria Stanislaw in 2001.

A trio of event victories led the way for the Grinnell College women at the Dutch Athletics Classic indoor track and field meet Friday in Pella.

Catherine Bisignano ’13 won the mile run in 5:42.81, Stephanie Rouse ’13 was first in the 3000 in 10:46.03 and Jordan Young ’14 took first in the shot put with a toss of 35-3 ¾.

Rouse’s time moved her to ninth on the Pioneers’ all-time chart.

Longtime Grinnell coach Will Freeman has been elected chairman of the NCAA Division III Track and Field/Cross Country Committee by a vote of NCAA committee members.

A member of the NCAA committee for the past three years, Freeman has been the liaison for cross country and indoor track and also the D-III representative to the NCAA rules committee.

The Grinnell College men’s and women’s track and field squads were named 2011 NCAA Division III All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
