A pair of top five finishes led the way for the Grinnell College women’s track and field team at the Kip Janvrin Open Friday in Indianola.
The school-record holding 4x400-meter relay team of Elena Gartner ’14, Christine Ajinjeru ’14, Sarah Burnell ’14 and Isabelle Miller ’13 took second place in a time of 4:11.22.
Miller (pictured) also captured fifth in the 400 dash in 59.93, a time that ranks fourth on Grinnell’s all-time chart.
Other top 10 finishes came from Stephanie Rouse ’13 in the 5000 (sixth place in 18:57.21), Miller in the 400 hurdles (ninth in 65.92), Sachi Graber ’12 in the pole vault (9-1/4) and Allegra Kwong ’11 in the triple jump (30-5 ½).
Additionally, Lilah Melzer ’11 was 11th in the 3000 steeplechase (13:44.19), Ajinjeru placed 12th in the 400 (61.28) and Burnell wound up 14th in the 1500 (4:53.69).
Burnell’s time ranks seventh in Pioneer history, while Emily Clennon ’14 ran the 10th-fastest 100 time with a clocking of 13.37.
Grinnell travels to the Monmouth Invitational next Saturday.
