Pioneers Capture Strong Finishes During Spring Break Competition

The Grinnell College women's outdoor track and field team began competition over spring break and had several individuals bring home strong finishes.

During competition at the Walt Disney World Invitational, Sarah Spencer '08 ran to a second-place finish in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:28.49 - just six seconds behind the winner. Katie Ryan '07 took sixth in the event for the Pioneers with a time of 18:40.48.

Later in the week, the team also took part in the ERAU Classic and had several individuals record strong finishes. Candyce Jones '10 ran 13.74 in the 100 meter dash to tie for seventh, while Mollie Kratz '08 took 10th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.42. She later placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.01.

Becky Bessinger '09 placed fourth in the 800 meter run (2:28.90), while Emily Lynam '09 took fifth (2:30.57). Bessinger later won the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:01.70. Liza Brost '10 placed second in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 17.52 before winning the 400 meter hurdles event with a time of 1:15.32. The Pioneers then placed second in the 4x800 meter relay (11:08.93).

Bethany Prosseda '10 placed fourth in the pole vault, while Maggie Kamaraczewski '10 took third in the long jump.

The team returns to action on April 7th when it travels to Lamoni, Iowa, to compete in the Yellowjacket Classic.
