Pioneers in Fifth after Day One of Championships

The Grinnell College women's indoor track and field sits in fifth place after day one of competition from the Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Knox College. The Pioneers wracked up 27 points as Monmouth leads the way with 75 points.

The team captured its first points of the day when they sprint relay team finished eighth with a time of 4:41.17. Sarah Spencer '08 then highlighted the day for Grinnell with a new meet record and NCAA Prov. time of 17:36.88 in the 5,000 meter run. Fellow teammate, Katie Ryan '07 finished second in 18:44.45. The team continued its strong distance running as Becky Bessinger captured fourth-place in the 1-mile run after reaching the finish line in 5:29.34.

The Pioneers close out competition on Saturday when events begin at 10:30 a.m.
