Eloise Miller ’15 (pictured) shattered the Grinnell College school record en route to earning a victory in the women’s triple jump at the Cornell College Hilltop Open this weekend.

Miller had a winning leap of 35-5, breaking the previous Pioneer best of 33-9 ½ by Maria Stanislaw in 2001.

A trio of event victories led the way for the Grinnell College women at the Dutch Athletics Classic indoor track and field meet Friday in Pella.

Catherine Bisignano ’13 won the mile run in 5:42.81, Stephanie Rouse ’13 was first in the 3000 in 10:46.03 and Jordan Young ’14 took first in the shot put with a toss of 35-3 ¾.

Rouse’s time moved her to ninth on the Pioneers’ all-time chart.

Longtime Grinnell coach Will Freeman has been elected chairman of the NCAA Division III Track and Field/Cross Country Committee by a vote of NCAA committee members.

A member of the NCAA committee for the past three years, Freeman has been the liaison for cross country and indoor track and also the D-III representative to the NCAA rules committee.

The Grinnell College men’s and women’s track and field squads were named 2011 NCAA Division III All-Academic Teams by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Sixty-four men’s programs and 111 women’s teams earned the honor, which is given to squads with a cumulative grade point average of 3.1 or higher.

Sarah Burnell ’14 (left), Isabelle Miller ’13 and Christine Ajinjeru ’14 (right) all earned second-place finishes for Grinnell College Saturday as the Pioneers finished third as a team at the 2011 Midwest Conference Track and Field Championships in Monmouth, Ill.

Sarah Burnell ’14 and Maja Gamble ’11 (pictured) paced the Grinnell College women’s track and field team on the opening day of the 2011 Midwest Conference Championships Friday at Monmouth, Ill.

Burnell claimed runner-up honors in the 1500-meter run, while Gamble finished second in the 10,000.

Leah Russell ’11 (pictured) claimed runner-up honors in the 800-meter run to lead the Grinnell College women’s track and field team Saturday at the Monmouth College Fighting Scot Invitational.

She ran the race in 2:22.93 en route to beating all but one runner in the 27-woman field.

A pair of top five finishes led the way for the Grinnell College women’s track and field team at the Kip Janvrin Open Friday in Indianola.
