8:15 a.m Wake up! This usually takes a few minutes, as I am not a morning person, but eventually I make it out of the door.
8:50 am Morning walk across Mac Field. I do this every day so it signals to my brain that it's time to start academics—it's a little morning ritual that I really enjoy.
9:00 am Research Methods. It's a little bit of statistics, a little bit of psychology and a lot of experimental design. I'm not particularly research oriented, but I like this class because it teaches me to... Read More...

7:50 a.m Hit the snooze button on my cell alarm.
8:00 am Woke up chasing Clocky, my alarm clock with wheels.
8:30 am Grabbed my Nutella and peanut butter toast fix from the dhall. And, had a glass of orange juice to boost my morning!
9:00 am Checked email and discovered my first class was canceled!
10:00 am Got the chance to play with (I mean observe...) primate skulls in my Human Evolution class, including a baby gorilla skull.
10:50 am Checked my mailbox and headed over to the Spencer Grill... Read More...

6:45 am Get up, get ready, and go get breakfast (granola, yogurt, and tea) at the dining hall.
8:00 am Head to my first-year tutorial, Our Prairie Town, with Professor Jon Andelson. In this class, we discuss the town of Grinnell as a place, in terms of both history and the environment. Today we discussed research projects on the history of Grinnell, I'm planning on doing a demographic survey of the town of Grinnell from its founding in 1854 to the present.
11:00 am "Tabling" for the Concerts... Read More...

8:20 am Wake up.
8:25 am Hit snooze for the second time.
8:30 am Get out of bed.
8:38 am After figuring out whether to wear jeans or shorts (got to love Iowa fall), I am ready to leave my room.
8:42 am Enter the dining hall, grumble something that sounds close to "good morning" to Connie (the lovely woman who sits at the Information Desk), get my yogurt (yay it's cherry vanilla!) and my Frosted Flakes and go to sit at a table by the window.
8:55 am I realize that I still have calculus homework... Read More...

8:00 am Wake up.
8:01 am Hit snooze.
8:05 am Actually wake up.
8:45 am I live off campus. This has been great: I go into downtown Grinnell more, I get to have my own fridge and attend Vegan Coop, the off meal plan rotating dinner cooking group. The only time this becomes a disadvantage is when I try to make it to class: I’m a perpetually late person, and I still haven’t gotten used to the extra five minutes it takes me to walk to class. ... No one likes the doctor's office, but at least you usually leave feeling better than you did walking in. 98 years ago, your chances of feeling better appear to have been much slimmer. We recently received an appointment book used by P.E. Somers, M.D., a physician working in the Grinnell area in 1914. Besides his appointments, the book includes a section outlining the basic medical knowledge of the day, parts of which are terrifying.
Below is a section on basic childhood... Read More...

As a high school junior, I remember being confused by the Grinnell College website. The print material stood out from all other colleges, but the website failed to stand out (unless you count standing out because it looked more like the site of big finance firm despite being a progressive liberal arts college). Nevertheless, I considered Grinnell, and a visit to campus solidified my decision.
I wonder though.
How many high school students stop considering Grinnell because of its website? Is... Read More...

I started working for Web Services in September of my first year, three years ago. The college was deep in the process of moving the site into Drupal, and I was one of three students hired to help clean up and convert content. However, I shortly became the only student working with the two full-time staff on the College website. Our to-do lists always exceeded our time availability and often resulted in the resort to shortcuts. Though timesaving then, these shortcuts cost us (and ultimately the... Read More...

Though the physical layout of Grinnell often feels like one of the College's most stable components, construction and demolition occur relatively frequently. During my brief stay here, I've seen central campus get plowed up for a new ampitheater, new paths being laid across the campus, and the old Physical Education Center get demolished by front-end loaders. What's even more intriguing than the physical changes that do happen, however, are those that don't. I... Read More...

Managing over 100 sections of a college website is no simple task. Amongst the many issues there is access control, syndication of content across the entire site, and providing a consistent and meaningful structure for users. Luckily, Drupal 7 is able to satisfy these challenges and has been the choice of hundreds of Universities and Colleges worldwide.
Drupal does many things extremely well to appeal to higher education sites. First and foremost they are content rich media sites, with lots of... Read More...
