Residence Life

We're a residential college, so you’ll be spending a lot of time living with and getting to know other Grinnellians. Our residence halls are grouped on three sides: North Campus, South Campus, and East Campus. The residence halls all have their own quirks and bonuses, but all have spacious lounges, wi-fi access, laundry facilities, computer rooms, kitchens, and custodial services.

You can also join project houses (e.g., Eco house) and language houses, located in historic homes near campus. If you’re not living on campus, you’re likely studying abroad or live within a short walk.

North and East Campuses are prized for easy access to the fitness center. North Campus also has the Harris Center, with its cinema and concert hall.  East Campus is our newest set of residence halls, with enormous windows, huge lounges, and elevators in each hall.  South Campus is closest to our arts center, our main library, Bob’s Underground Café, and our popular concert venue, Gardner Lounge. They all sport classic loggias.

The centrally-located Marketplace dining hall serves all of campus, and the Spencer Grill offers snacks, drinks, and lighter fare. Both are in the Rosenfield Center, our campus center that also showcases the Laurel Leaf lounge (a favorite study spot), the game room, and the post office. Upstairs you'll find the Student Government Association offices and many classrooms, while downstairs you’ll find the student-run Lyle’s Pub.

Student advisers on each floor and adult residential life coordinators ensure you get settled in quickly and can handle any issues as they arise, and safety officers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
