Housing & Dining
About 85 percent of our students live in a residence hall, language or project house, or off-campus house — so they really get to know one another well. Residence halls are small; most house 50–60 students of all class years, majors, and backgrounds, making each hall floor feel like a big, diverse family. A residence life professional staff person and more than 70 student staff members work to make sure you feel right at home. Residence halls offer a range of rooming situations, ranging from singles to quads to mini-apartments with their own kitchens. During your first year, you’ll have at least one roommate hand-picked by residence life staff for compatibility with you. Coed, single-sex, gender-neutral, and substance-free options are all available.
Check out Grinnell’s state-of-the-art Marketplace Dining in the campus center. It offers the chance to enjoy the company of your fellow students over multiple, freshly prepared meal choices including fresh stir-fry, pizzas right out of the oven, hot grilled sandwiches, a choice of pastas and sauces, multiple vegan options, eggs to order, traditional favorites such as carved meats and mashed potatoes, a salad and soup bar, deli bar, dessert bar, soft serve ice cream, Belgian waffles, cereals, breads, and beverages.
The Spencer Grill, also in the campus center, is the perfect place to meet friends for morning coffee, a light lunch, a late-night snack, or some fresh-baked goodies. You can also pick up a meal-in-a-box if you’re on the go.
