The class fund director encourages support for the annual Pioneer Fund by connecting with classmates' sense of philanthropy for Grinnell College. The CFD sends fundraising letters to classmates, coordinates class fundraising, and helps coordinate and plan Reunion. As a member of the class committee, the CFD also attends Volunteer Weekend and helps to plan class reunions.
There are typically one or two CFDs per class; with co-CFDs, classmates share the workload. A segment of the class committee should be particularly comfortable with and interested in fundraising.
The work of a CFD and correspondence with classmates provides crucial services:
- Promotes a positive attitude toward the College through factual, informative communication.
- Keeps classmates connected to Grinnell through detailed and regular communication coordinated with the College, class agent, Asa Turner chair, and class committee members.
- Connects classmates to Grinnell by encouraging them to make a gift.
Like other class volunteers, CFDs and class fundraisers' service begins by making their own personal gift. A CFD must be a positive advocate for Grinnell; gifts are tangible ways to demonstrate support and to enhance credibility when asking someone else to give.
Class fund directors set goals, compose personal solicitations, and thank donors for gifts. CFDs serve on their class committees, coordinate class committee fundraising, share news with class agents, and advise the Office of College and Alumni Relations about fundraising.
- Class fund directors prepare and send fundraising letters to their classmates. Because of the importance of fundraising and contact with alumni, timely and regular production of these letters is a required part of the job.
- CFDs must keep careful records of who they have contacted and when. Please report this information to our office frequently.
- Thoughtful stewardship is important. Our office can help you with your efforts.
