Grinnell College currently uses a homegrown content management system (CMS) called BornFree. Any user with a campus username can be authorized and trained to use the College's CMS to update web pages.
BornFree assigns a default look to all College pages.
However, it also supports custom templates. Contact us if you want your pages to have a different look/feel.
To use BornFree, you'll need to:
- Have access to the campus network,
- Be authorized to use BornFree for the pages you'll be changing, and
- Grab a copy of BornFree from \\webmaster\soft.
See "Getting BornFree" in Chapter 3 of the Born Free Manual for complete instructions.
Contact web services to get or change your authorization.
Faculty can use BornFree or other tools for their web pages.
Please contact your Curricular Technology Specialist (CTS) for more information.
We have a group of students trained to assist you in maintaining your pages. They can train you to use BornFree, or can help you convert or redesign your site.
Training is free, but conversion and redesign must come from your office's or department's budget. Contact us to arrange training in BornFree.
The web team is always looking for students to work
with web maintenance and development. Contact us if you are interested.
Currently, the College is transitioning to a new CMS. This is done through a process of broad discussion with various representatives from all sectors of the campus community. Contact us if you are interested in participating in this project.
The web team is also currently going through an overhaul of the design and structure of the entire College
website. The Admission pages were the pilot project, with the College and Alumni Relations pages updating next.
The process will eventually lead to the redesign of the Front Door and all major sections of the College's site.
