Grinnell College uses a content management system that separates three major elements of a web page: content, design, and navigation.
Automatic on every page
In order to create an effective web experience on the College site, certain web standards are required of
every page. These standards include:
- The College logo, as a link to www.grinnell.edu
- A search function
- A clear indication of who maintains the page and the best way to contact him or her
- Quick Links menu with links to the major sections of the rest of the site
- Grinnell College elects to comply with web standards pertaining to disabilities,
- as enumerated in 508c.
Individually-controlled content
Web page authors and maintainers have some degree of freedom in the way things appear on a page.
These elements are not required, but please keep in mind:
- Use valid HTML.
- Use valid CSS.
- Create consistent internal navigation.
- Keep image size to 50 KB, with a width of 580 pixels.
- Images should have Alt-text in order to be supported by screen readers for people with disabilities.
- Each page should have a unique page title that clearly indicates what the page is about.
