Beginning Nov. 2, the Career Development Office, Intercultural Affairs, and the Center for Religion, Spirituality, and Social Justice will join Institutional Research and Accessibility and Compliance in the Office of Diversity and Achievement, led by Elena Bernal, vice president. The realigned functions, which previously reported to Student Affairs, support the College's objectives to advance the culture of diversity across the College community and foster achievement while at Grinnell and beyond graduation.
"Each of the offices contributes to weaving inclusive achievement into the fabric of the Grinnell experience," said Russell K. Osgood, president of the College. "It makes sense to align these offices with the vision for interdivisional collaborations."
The Division of Student Affairs, led by Houston Dougharty, vice president, will continue to oversee functions that support students' daily lives and on-campus activities: residence life and new student orientation, academic advising, international student affairs, student activities and campus center operations, health services, and campus safety and security.
The division also expects to expand campus health services to include in-house counseling staff. In addition to using services provided through the Poweshiek County Mental Health Center, the College expects to provide students with on-campus mental health counseling services, beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.
