1846 - Meet the Challenge

On June 10, 1846, James J. Hill made the first gift to Grinnell. Today, the College faces a new challenge -- encouraging more alumni to give.

A routine calculation revealed an amazing coincidence. One month before the end of the 2009 giving year, the College was exactly 1846 alumni short of a 40 percent alumni gift participation rate.

1846 alumni donors by June 30. That was the goal. Many took the 1846 Challenge and made a gift through Grinnell College to the amazing impact students and alumni have on the world each and every day. Many hands lighten the load and deepen the well. Thank you all for your part.

Our final tally for the 1846 Challenge will continue to increase over the next week as all the gifts postmarked before June 30 make their way to us.
