Five Grinnell College students have received scholarships from the Ladies Education Society, the college's oldest surviving organization.
The Society, founded in 1862, annually awards scholarships on the basis of academic excellence, character, leadership and financial need.
The 2012 award winners are (front row, from left in photo): Kate Doyle, a senior history major from Skokie, Ill.; Katie In, a senior sociology major from Morton Grove, Ill.; Taylor Nys, a senior with a double major in sociology and gender, women's and sexuality studies, from Superior, Wisc.; Colleen Osborne (not pictured), a senior political science major from Valley Glen, Calif.; and Paula-Dene Nesbeth (not pictured), a senior biological chemistry major from Kingston, Jamaica.
