Dr. Beck was born on April 14, 1917, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Paul H and Anna (Martin) Beck. He was raised in Oak Park, Il. He graduated from Grinnell College, B.A.'39 and Northwestern University Medical School, M.D. '43. He served in Europe in WWII as a Medical Officer in the Army obtaining the rank of Captain. He received the EAME Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars and two Oversea Service Bars. He started a general practice in Springfield, Il. He went on to pursue a specialty in Ophthalmology at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago. He moved to St. Joseph in 1955 and practiced there until he retired in 1994.
