From Boy II Man- Growing up a G-Tone
I still remember the first audition Mark Henry '05 and I held for the initiation of the G-Tones, Grinnell’s male A Cappella Group. It was the most amazing experience I ever witnessed. Not only was I able to make a ton of new friends, I toured nationally and internationally doing what I love to do most – Sing!
I remember spending hours rehearsing a single song just to figure out who would sing lead, or trying to incorporate dance moves only to realize that none of us were very good dancers. As we gathered in the corner of Burling Library or outside of Bucksbaum to perform our songs, the excitement and love we felt from the campus was overwhelming. Grinnell is a place where people genuinely appreciate creativity and hard work.
I learned that no dream is too big and no accomplishment is too small.
I am currently the lead singer of the band “How Far to Austin”. When I perform onstage, I think back to my Grinnell experience and how it inspired the entertainer I am today. I enjoy many musicians; however the true Rock Stars are the guys who are able to say they performed as a G-Tone.
