Being a part of a diverse community.

Grinnell has a long tradition of breaking down social barriers, enabling students of all backgrounds to thrive in this community. Mando Montano '12 is a student adviser (SA) and supervises two coed floors encouraging students to get active and involved at Grinnell.

"The students try their best to make students feel welcome. I know with my floor, I want to make students feel welcome. I want them to be happy here and find a niche. As a college there are opportunities to feel welcome and be part of a community. You don't become a part of something by not doing anything.”

Mando leads by example and is not only a student adviser but works as an editor for the Scarlet & Black, as well as studying Spanish and Latin American studies. While there is immense diversity in Grinnell's student body, students like Mando make it easy for students from every background to feel like they are a part of the larger Grinnell community.
