The skill and courage to try.
“Grinnell is a very special place for me. I arrived at Grinnell as a skinny kid with no idea about what I wanted to do with my adult life. I left Grinnell no longer a skinny kid, still with no idea what I wanted to do with myself, but feeling like I had the skills to do whatever it was that I might try. I think, in retrospect, that I was right. The knowledge, study skills, and critical thinking abilities that I acquired at Grinnell have given me a leg up and allowed me to explore and find my niche. I want others to be able to have the same leg up, which is why I give back to Grinnell. I would not be the person I am today without my Grinnell experience and I want others to get the chance to have their Grinnell experience as well.” -- Alex Wood ’97
For those of you who know Alex, he's being modest. I'm not sure if Grinnell is the reason why he is such a great friend to others and an even better father and husband. I do know that the success he has had in his career and as leader in his community can be attributed to his experiences at Grinnell.
