Grinnell College is continually striving to reduce its environmental footprint by increasing energy efficiency, encouraging responsible energy consumption, and reducing our reliance on energy from fossil fuels.
Projects include:
Grinnell College Emissions Reduction Commitment
Wind energy
Geothermal energy
Energy efficiency projects
Alternative transportation
- In January 2007 Grinnell College's first ever wind turbine began producing energy. Designed to meet the power of the Conard Environmental Research Area, this 50 kW turbine offsets roughly 200,000 lbs of CO2 each year. As of April 6, 2007 the turbine has offset approximately 33,000 lbs of CO2. Click here to learn more about wind at Grinnell.
- The newly renovated Noyce science center has a number of interesting energy efficiency features that reduce electricity consumption and heating and cooling needs. Click here to learn more about energy efficiency.
