Installation of CERA geothermal wells, April 2005 Geothermal energy is utilized at the Conard Environmental Research Area (CERA) for heating and cooling the main facility. Geothermal energy emits 85% fewer carbon emssions than natural gas heating systems and 90% fewer emissions than oil and coal systems.
