The War and Peace Project is a collaborative fusion of literature and art, consisting of 747 individual collages that form a unique work based on Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel, War and Peace. Each 5 x 7 inch collage incorporates one page from the Russian text, combined with bits of maps, dried flowers, ink, wax, graphite, thread, letters and other printed material. The collages were created by Team Tolstoy, an international collaborative of artists coordinated by Laura “Lola” Baltzell ’83, and have been exhibited in Boston, New York, Amherst (MA), Fayetteville (AR), and at the Tolstoy Estate and Museum in Tula, Russia.
