In fall 2009, the Faulconer Gallery presented the exhibition, Molecules That Matter, organized by the Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York. The exhibition included elaborate, accurate, large-scale models of each of the ten molecules selected by a scientific advisory panel to represent a seminal scientific advancement in each decade of the 20th century.
When the exhibition closed, the Tang presented Grinnell College with the opportunity to borrow two of the molecule models for long-term loan. The models for Progestin and Polyethylene are now installed in atrium and study areas in the southwest section of Noyce Science Center.
