An exhibition of work by 21 Portuguese artists who draw on culture, place, art, history, family, and theory in order to express where they are from in photographs, video, sculpture, and works of new media.

Hands-on activities for people of all ages, tours of the exhibition, and storytelling focused on finding out where we all come from. Make a book, write and illustrate your history, share your story.

Sculptor and video artist Nuno Pedrosa will discuss work on view in Grinnell and at the UNI Gallery of Art.

Wife and husband, artist and scientist, de Menezes and Graça grapple with the ways science and art intersect and sometimes clash.
Artist's Talk, José Carlos Teixeira "Geographies and other ethnographies: between context and identity"

New media artist Teixeira, trained in Portugal, Spain, and at UCLA, will discuss the work in the exhibition and other related projects on identity, language, displacement and exile.

Concert: "Music from the Portuguese Empire"

This concert features music from Portugal, its former empire, and the greater Iberian peninsula, and ranges from the Middle Ages to the bossa nova style of Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Iowa Flute Festival

One of several performance venues for this year's festival, the pieces performed in the Faulconer Gallery will respond to and interact with the Portuguese art on view.
Community Day, "Salt, Sardines, and Fairy Tales"
Saturday, March 29, 1:00-3:00 pm
Bucksbaum Rotunda
Explore works by Paula Reaes Pinto and António Pinto that feature the salt and sardine industries in Portugal. Look anew at fairy tales and the way they shape our culture in the work of Teresa Furtado. Use an exceptional selection of collage materials including sardine tins to invent your own fairy tales. For people of all ages. Refreshments will be served. The artists will all be present!

Bring a dish that represents where you are from and join us for a final feast. The Faulconer Gallery will provide table service, drinks, and a main course in partnership with the Center for Religion, Spirituality, and Social Justice.
