Six drawings from American Qur'an, Michigan-born artist Sandow Birk's ongoing project to transcribe an English translation of the Holy book of Islam, are on view in Smith Gallery in the College's Joe Rosenfield '25 Center on 8th Avenue. The drawings are comprised of chapters 36 and 37, which address humankind's responsibilities to God and to each other. In the margins of the text, the artist includes images of American everyday life, including agrarian scenes familiar to Midwesterners.
The exhibition will be on view until September 19, open 11 am-6 pm everyday.
