Edward S. Curtis organized his extensive accumulation of data and images in The North American Indian volumes as an encyclopedic archive. Instead of looking at his photogravures as a fixed and definitive source of information about American Indian cultures, this exhibition seeks to highlight the striking individuality and unique beauty in each of these images, as well as to question their modes of representation. The Exhibition Seminar was directed by Associate Professor of Art Jenny Anger.
