The Russian Ending: Photogravures by Tacita Dean
March 17 - April 30, 2008
Print and Drawing Study Room, Burling Library
Sunday - Friday, 1 - 5 pm. Closed Saturdays
Twenty photogravures by Tacita Dean based on vintage postcards superimposed with stage directions, lighting, sound effects and the artist's whimsical asides. The title refers to the pre-Hollywood practice in Denmark where movies were made and exported both to American and Russia. It was necessary at that time to create alternative endings for these two very different audiences, reserving a very tragic ending for the Russian audience. British artist Tacita Dean (b. 1965) is best know for her films and was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1998.
