By default, Mozilla's Firefox browser has a spell checker for any text field. However, Drupal's WYSIWYG editor, TinyMCE, turns this spell checker off to avoid conflicts with other spell checkers.
To enable the spell checker for any body field using a PC:
- Hold down CTRL
- Right click in the body field
- On the resulting context menu, select "Check Spelling"
To enable the spell checker for any body field using a Mac:
- Hold down CTRL
- Click in the body field
- On the resulting context menu, select "Check Spelling"
You should now see red-underlined words with incorrect spellings.
To fix a misspelled word (one underlined in red) using a PC:
- Hold down CTRL
- Right click the word you want to correct
- Select the correct spelling (possible spellings are in bold at the top of the context menu)
To fix a misspelled word (one underlined in red) using a Mac:
- Hold down CTRL
- Click the word you want to correct
- Select the correct spelling (possible spellings are in bold at the top of the context menu)
If a word is spelled correctly but underlined in red (for instance, Firefox does not recognize "Grinnell"), follow steps One and Two above, but instead choose "Add to Dictionary."
Note: Be aware that adding a word to a dictionary only affects the specific user account and computer you are using. If you log on as a different user or use a different computer, Firefox will not remember your custom dictionary.
