Website Standards at Grinnell

Standards are the reason you can recharge your laptop in New York and Los Angeles using the same cord. They are a set of rules that let us work together.

Grinnell has traditionally had a very hands-off approach to how our website and sub-sites are structured and designed. This gives different areas a lot of freedom, but also creates some problems for our visitors.

By agreeing to and upholding standards, we make it easier for people to find what they're looking for and access the site in the way that works best for them.  We also ensure the site works on and with the largest number of devices.

Your Responsibilities

Everyone posting to the Grinnell website is responsible for understanding and following the College standards.

Some standards are legal requirements, others allow the site to work correctly, and others ensure the quality of the site as a whole.

Never ignore standards!  If you don't understand why something is a standard, or you don't like the effect you get following them, talk to us.  We can explain why the standard is a standard, and work with you to come up with solutions that look good and work well.

Following Changes to Grinnell Website Standards

As new standards are agreed to, they will be posted here and sent to Drupal users.

Standards may be set by the Look & Feel or Quality Assurance Web Group subcommittees or the Communication team, may be legal requirements, or may be based on commonly supported Internet standards.
