Availability of GIS software
ESRI's ArcGIS software is the primary GIS software in use at Grinnell. The software resides on the campus network. We have approximately 50 ArcView licenses and 3 ArcInfo licenses. If you would like to have GIS software on your office computer, please contact your ITS support team for installation.
The Burling Library IIF, ARH 124, the Goodnow Hall computer lab, and PCs in the Creative Computing Lab in the Forum have ArcGIS software installed. These systems can be used by students during the available hours of the labs and by courses as scheduled by the registrar.
A large-format digitization tablet and two small-format digitization tablets are available at Burling Library.
Web Resources & Documentation
Please visit http://www.grinnell.edu/academic/gis/index.shtml for information about using GIS at Grinnell. Fred Hagemeister, CTS for Science and Social Sciences and Katie Dunn, Librarian, will manage the web page information; please contact them regarding web resources.
http://www.esri.com/ contains many web resources for using ArcGIS including support pages and software bug listings. Grinnell College also has access to online courses on ArcGIS software through ESRI's Virtual Campus (http://training.esri.com). Contact Katie Dunn (dunnkath@grinnell.edu) to be registered for a Virtual Campus course.
Some documentation for ArcGIS is available in PDF format on the Storage server at \\Storage\ARCGIS\Documentation.

GIS Listserv and Blackboard Group for GIS
Students, faculty and staff who are interested in GIS are welcome to join the campus GIS listserv. This is a low-traffic list, used mainly for announcements of new GIS opportunities. A Blackboard "course" has also been set up to facilitate communication between faculty, students and staff who are utilizing GIS on campus. The GIS course can be found in the Blackboard course listing under the heading "Clubs and Organizations". It is titled "GIS".
Software announcement will be posted on Blackboard and a discussion of using GIS in a liberal arts environment will be hosted. If you are interested in joining the GIS listserv or Blackboard group, please contact Fred Hagemeister hagemeis@grinnell.edu for more information.
