It has been 101 years since Mark Twain died, yet his writings continue to provoke interest and debate. The University of California Press has begun publishing his unexpurgated autobiography and New South Books recently released a new edition of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn that substitutes racially-charged language with less inflammatory words. Kathryn Vanney’s (’11) exhibition presents editions of Twain’s works from the libraries’ special collections and invites you to consider whether Twain’s work should be altered to encourage wider readership.
