Addressing Sexual Harassment and Assault

Grinnell is hosting Jasmeen Patheja for a workshop and presentation this month.

Patheja is an artist, activist, social entrepreneur based in Bangalore, India. In 2003, as a response to daily experiences and threat of street harassment, she founded Blank Noise, a community of action heroes—citizens and individuals across India and beyond, united to eradicate sexual and gender based violence. In her work with Blank Noise, Patheja has designed a range of participatory projects, mobilizing communities and individuals. She is interested in exploring vulnerability, fear, empathy, trust, victim blame, shame, and desire through her practice and work with this community of action heroes.

On Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, she'll present a limited workshop on "Building Campus Action Heroes."

At 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, she'll present the free, public lecture "Toward the Right to Live Defenseless" in the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center, Room 101.

Patheja's visit is sponsored by Grinnell's Rosenfield Program; Title IX office; Peace & Conflict Studies; Global Development Studies; The Center for the Humanities; The Institute for Global Engagement; Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies; The Office of Diversity and Inclusion; Grinnell Advocates, and the Department of Sociology.
