Between Earth and Sky in Grinnell

The documentary film Between Earth and Sky, which  will be open to a public and free viewing at the Strand Theater in Grinnell, Thursday, April 13, 2017.

The viewing will be followed by a free, public reception with guest speaker David Weindorf, executive producer. The reception will start at 6:30 p.m. and pizza will be available. Transportation to and from the Rosenfield Center and the Strand will be provided.

The film starts with the work of University of Alaska-Fairbanks researcher Chien-Lu Ping who is a foremost expert on arctic soils. Through understanding the soil science of climate change and permafrost, the film illuminates the concerning ways in which climate change affects the life cycles of wildlife and the traditional practices of arctic villages. Featured are the voices of scientists, land managers, and native Alaskans.

Weindorf is the associate dean for research and the B.L. Allen Endowed Chair of Pedology in the Department of Plant and Soil Science of Texas Tech University.

Between Earth and Sky is produced by Texas Tech Public Media, funded by the Soil Science Society of America, the USDA — Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Executive Producer David Weindorf and is directed by Paul Allen Hunton.
