More than 60 Grinnellians – a mix of alumni, students, parents, faculty, and staff – joined 10,000 other riders Sunday, July 23 – Saturday, July 28, in the granddaddy of cross-state bike tours, the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI.
After dipping their tires in the waters of the Missouri River, they biked approximately 470 miles from the tour's start in Sioux Center to Clinton, Iowa, where they ended their tour with a dip in the Mississippi River.
The riders of Team Grinnell, the largest group of Grinnellians, gathered in Grinnell before joining the chartered bus coordinated by local bike shop, Bikes to You.
Many Grinnellians – both on Team Grinnell and riding with other teams – met up during the week, with several dozen taking a side trip this year to Rube's Steakhouse in Montour, fondly remembered by decades of Grinnellians who've gathered around its huge grills to cook their own steaks.
