Grinnellians saw many new faces this past weekend, as students across campus welcomed their families to campus for a weekend filled with special events. Family Weekend give families a chance to learn more about the College and town, meet their students’ friends, check out the dining hall, pick up Grinnell gear at the bookstore, sit in on classes, and visit informally with faculty.

Student panels, poster sessions, and presentations, as well as trips to the Conard Environmental Research Center and the observatory, showcase academic life.

Sports enthusiasts cheer on volleyball, soccer, rugby, tennis, and golf.

Fitness buffs stretch their legs with yoga or a community bike ride, work out in the fitness center, scale the rock wall, take one of several tours of the town and campus, or have fun in the bouncy castle. There's even bowling.

For entertainment, there are art galleries across campus; performances by comedians, a spoken-word artist, musicians — including jazz, a cappella, choir, and orchestra; and an outdoor music fest.

In town, visitors find the Grinnell farmer's market, a raku pottery-making workshop, and many dining opportunities. Students gave their perspectives of the town with tours of "must-see" business and attractions.

When the weekend was done, family members returned home with an increased understanding of what makes Grinnell so special for so many generations of students.
