This Monday, Google honored Robert "Bob" Noyce ’49 on what would have been his 84th birthday with his own Google doodle — the Google logo etched on a microchip.
The doodle has been picked up by several sources, including The Washington Post, PC Magazine, Los Angeles Times, and The Guardian.
Noyce, the “mayor of Silicon Valley,” co-inventor of the integrated circuit, and co-founder of Intel, not only had a huge impact on technology and computing, he had a great impact on Grinnell. One of our most notable alumni, Noyce served as a Trustee for several years and supported the introduction of desktop computing at the College. A native of Grinnell, Noyce was a scholar whose vision and direction were conditioned by his exposure to the liberal arts and sciences.
The Robert N. Noyce’49 Science Center and the Noyce Visiting Professorship are named in his honor.
