A Sense of Place

Celebrating the tallgrass prairie

Home › News › Featured Stories › A Sense of Place

Grinnell sits squarely within the tall grass prairie region of North America. Only a small fraction of the original prairie, which once covered much of Iowa, still remains.

The Prairie Festival, sponsored by the Center for Prairie Studies as a part of Iowa Prairie Heritage Week, invites visitors to learn more about the history, traditions, and ecology of the prairie.
