Seeking alumni input: sociologist publishes based on role playing
Assistant Professor of Sociology Karla Erickson knows that of which she writes. How? First, she lives the role; then she researches and writes about it. Her experiences with role-play research were recently featured in the Des Moines Register, including her soon-to-be-released book,"The Hungry Cowboy," based on work and observations in the restaurant industry.
Erickson is currently on leave from her teaching to work on a second book about end-of-life care and the interactions of patients, their families, and healthcare workers. During her leave, she has taken nursing courses and observed a local hospice and continuing care center. Erickson is interested in hearing about Grinnellians' experiences within the end-of-life care sector.
