Travis Greene appointed as dean of students
Travis Greene, a former Iowa State University student services coordinator and current doctoral student at the University of Maryland, was appointed dean of students at Grinnell College, effective July 7. As a leader in the Grinnell division of student affairs, Greene will oversee programs in residence life and housing, new student orientation, intercultural affairs, and judicial affairs, reporting to Vice-President for Student Affairs Houston Dougharty.
In addition to his doctoral work in college student personnel, Greene has served most recently as outreach and education coordinator in the office of student conduct at the University of Maryland, College Park. His previous experience includes director of campus life at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he also served as director of student life with responsibility for residence education efforts. At Iowa State, Greene planned and implemented campus programming to foster support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. Olaf College and a master's in education from Iowa State.
"Travis brings to Grinnell experience in both public and private, large and small institutions that will help to broaden our sense of community," Dougharty said. "His leadership philosophy of creating change through collaboration is a great fit for Grinnell's focus on the individual student."
