Isaacson said only Lawrence University and Grinnell College have natural turf football fields in the Midwest Conference. He said the field at Lawrence is used by two Appleton, Wis., high schools."When we show up, it's awful, it's brutal," he said.
On the other hand, he said, Grinnell "waters it properly" and has a ground crew that replaces divots on the field immediately after every game. He said the field is better than that at the University of Iowa.
