Pattie Simone, founder of WomenCentric (a transmedia technology company fueling fiscal empowerment for women professionals globally) spoke with author Lakesia D. Johnson at the 2012 BookExpo America in NYC. Johnson was at the BookExpo promoting and signing copies of her new book, "Iconic: Decoding Images of the Revolutionary Black Woman" (Baylor University Press).

"Iconic" examines how strong African-American women from the 1970s till today - including public figures like Michelle Obama, Angela Y. Davis and Kathleen N. Cleaver - have managed their images despite the negative stereotypes that are applied to strong black women in general. Johnson is assistant professor of gender, women and sexuality studies at Grinnell College.
