Tell Me You Love Me, and I’ll Tell You a Joke

Because I write humorous contemporary romance, I sometimes get asked whether it’s difficult to be funny. The answer is no. It never difficult to be funny. It’s difficult to not be funny.

I’m a deflector of emotions by nature – and I’m willing to bet this is the case for a lot of people who write humorous fiction. Come at me with something sentimental, something passionate, something emotional or intense, and I blink. Then I make the sign of the cross and back away. Then I make a joke.
